With most of the measures now lifted, we look back and see what impact corona has (had) on the logistics sector. As a temporary employment agency in Ede, we always have many logistics vacancies. Therefore, we would like to tell you what we experienced during the corona crisis.

Effects of corona

Many companies sometimes had to wait months for their goods from China. This had several causes. First, the whole world went into lockdown, including China. People had to stay at home and companies could not operate at full capacity. Most goods were also transported by boat, which meant that almost everything was delayed. In the Ede area, we also felt the effects of this. For instance, the supply flow of supplies was not constant, so we experienced huge spikes.

The transport sector

Remarkably, despite the major impact of the coronavirus on global logistics, the transport sector remained fairly stable in the Netherlands. According to Rabobank, this is because Dutch logistics companies are mainly focused on the Netherlands. Due to mergers of large companies and excellent management, these companies are more resistant to a crisis. As a result, we as a temporary employment agency have noticed that the demand for drivers and delivery drivers, for example, has remained at the same level and even increased in the Ede area. According to a Rabobank report, drivers’ wages and working conditions will increase in the coming years.

Good management makes the difference

In an industry where everyone is covered by the same collective labour agreement and there is a shortage of staff, the difference is made in how an organisation is organised. So good management.
